Years of working in administrative roles—including in corrective services and child safety—convinced Elena Brennan that poor mental health is often at the root of many problems. It was with that conviction that she changed career path and studied psychology.
Elena moved to Toowoomba in 2018 for post-graduate study at the University of Southern Queensland. In 2021, Elena joined MSMH as a Registered Psychologist part-time while continuing her Master of Psychology (Clinical) program.
Elena works with children, adolescents and adults providing psychological assessments and interventions, behavioural support and advice, individual and family counselling. Elena is trained in several therapeutic techniques including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy & Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. She is currently training in EMDR and EEG biofeedback.
“I’ve always been genuinely interested in other people”, she says. “I believe that understanding the client’s world and perspective is the first step toward a successful therapy outcome. I believe much can also be done working preventively, before the onset of chronic health issues.”
An observant and highly-practical therapist, Elena’s style is down-to-earth. Originally from Kazakhstan, Elena has lived and worked in four different countries and has the proven ability to adapt quickly to different people and environments. She speaks fluently in both English and Russian.
