Alex Leong
I began working part-time at Mind, Science and My Health in 2020 as a provisional psychologist while completing my Masters in Psychology (Clinical) and have since become registered as a Clinical Psychologist and Board-approved supervisor. Some of my past working experiences include working with children in academic settings as an Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA) therapist and global health policy research in my hometown, Kuala Lumpur, prior to relocating from Malaysia to Toowoomba in 2019 to pursue my studies in psychology. I have since called Toowoomba home and appreciate the laid-back lifestyle and beauty that Toowoomba has to offer. Beyond work life, I enjoy playing guitar and listening to all things music; being outdoors and exploring new places; doing some volunteer work; and reading.
I am passionate about promoting access to psychology services, taking a warm, person-centred, non-judgmental approach in therapy, and informing my practice with evidence-based therapies, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
I have a range of work experiences include working with children, parents, adults, and older adults living with:
- Neurodevelopmental disorders
- Anxiety-related disorders
- Depressive mood disorders
- Trauma-related disorders
- Substance-related disorders
- Chronic pain
- Grief & loss
I also have experience in psychological assessments to better understand difficulties with:
- Intellectual functioning
- Learning
- Flexible thinking, planning, organising & self-control
- Mood & behaviour
- Social skills
- Daily living skills
